Vietnam Post (ZIP) Code

So I was signing up to buy something online and needed the local post / postal / zip code in Vietnam. Within the country, the postal system doesn't rely on post codes. But some international shippers require them, so a halfway lengthy google search (i.e. I didn't hit success on the first search term) gave me Hanoi's code, which is 10999. I dunno if this is correct, because I faintly remember that the system went to a six-digit number sometime in mid-2007, but it could just be some incorrect detritus in my mind.

The info was sourced at TNT, a FedEx/DHL/UPS like delivery service.

This seems to be the most correct resource for postal (zip) codes for Vietnam.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_postal_codes_in_Vietnam

The funny thing is, if you ask office admin folks who send and receive international mail, they will swear up and down to you that Vietnam does not have any sort of postal code system.

I think their answers are technically false but functionally true. If you put the town on the package, it will get there.. and I believe that the postal system here would just ignore the postal code, whether it is there on the package or missing. It's only the international (overseas) shippers that require postal codes, especially for their online quotes.

Oh, and if you're not going to click thru to the wiki, it lists HCMC as 70000 (and Hanoi as 10000 as the anon poster mentioned).

hey man! the country and the people are smart ==> OK, but the government is so stupid that they do not know how they can enter a postcode system. So do not bother to search. They have the most craziest address format that you can imagine.! As long as Ho Chi Minh city they call, they'll know the difference between one city and one person let alone that they can enter postcode system.
